Bread & butter pudding

Serves 4.


  • 6 slices of old bread
  • Butter or margarine, enough to cover the bread slices
  • 3 tbsp of dried fruit (sultanas, raisins etc)
  • 2 free-range eggs
  • 300ml milk
  • 50g sugar


  1. Butter the bread and cut the bread diagonally. Place half the bread on the bottom of an ovenproof dish.
  2. Sprinkle the bread with the dried fruit. Place the remaining bread over the top.
  3. Beat the egg with the milk and pour over the bread. Leave to stand for 30 mins.
  4. Bake in a pre-heated oven at 180C for 30 mins. Good source of iron and protein
